tunic-encoder is a tool for converting English phonemes into Tunic symbols.
You can input using either IPA symbols or the ASCII variants shown in the chart below. For example, instead of entering the IPA /ʃ/, which is probably not on your keyboard, you can type the ASCII code sh
.
The input box does not accept regular English words. For example, entering “secret” will not give you the correct answer. Instead, you need to enter the phonemic transcription /sikrɪt/ (sikriht
). You can find IPA transcriptions in dictionaries like Wiktionary.
The encoder will greedily combine phonemes into Tunic symbols. For example, /ʌweɪ/ (uhwei
) will render /ʌw/ as a single Tunic character. If you instead want /weɪ/ to be rendered as one unit, you need to separate them using a dot like this: /ʌ·weɪ/ (uh.wei
).
The /ə/ phoneme does not seem to have a unique translation in Tunic. It usually translates to /ʌ/, but can also translate to /ɛ/ or /ʊ/ depending on circumstances.
The tool renders both standard IPA as well as Tunic script.
There is no feature to export or share. You'll just have to take a screenshot.
